In the next two months you will be inundated with newsletters and articles all analysing 2009. There is always a trend in taking a look back and this year has an overabundance of events for examination.
We have all had our share of personal and professional upheaval some of which was brought on the economic downturn. Behind our office and front doors we realized the challenges, dealt with them and moved on. And if you were like my husband and myself you had to re-adjust and tweaked the ‘big picture’ a bit.
We cannot look at the year in perspective without mentioning how social media has evolved and become embedded in our lives. Facebook stopped being the place for embarrassing photos and bad jokes and instead became an efficient way to stay connected with family and friends. If you build your page with care it can also be a medium for business acquaintances.
Twitter comments about what people were eating finally became tiresome and old. Twitter has recently changed its update prompting question from "What are you doing?" to "What's happening?" Businesses realize that this is a great place to market; they can get their message, product and services out there in real time.
It has been an interesting year for coaching; for me business clients out numbered life coaching clients. While some amazing women worked on both.
Brainstorming sessions with my team would reveal that our demographic has changed both for Jill Crossland Coaching and TimeFinders Online Magazine. We were no longer about midlife instead we were attracting a much broader client and reader base. Common denominators were that they are female entrepreneurs, late twenties to sixty something; with children in your lives whether as mom or grandmother and caregiving was coming into the picture to some degree even for the younger women.
Who are the team? The recently turned forty, Terri Pepin owner of Maple Leaf Solutions, who’s too numerous roles defy a specific title. Alanna Morley, (who just turned thirty) is the social media manager and Green Living, Editor. Both have two children. Between us there are; three different geographical locations and lifestyles, three different professional backgrounds, and three different age demographics.
And we are excited about the plans and goals for 2010.
The Scottish have a magical word, gloaming. It is a sacred in-between time of transition; the time between the activity of our daily routine into the quiet of night and rest. My wish for you is that you find such a time between your holiday celebrations and the New Year. That within this gloaming you reflect without self-criticism, make realistic goals for 2010 and quietly revel in all you have accomplished in 2009; all things big and small.
Happy Holidays, Jill
