Terri & I are working on making changes to the magazine's home page; so that it is easier for you the reader to navigate through the articles, columns and features. We are in the 'let’s try this, no that didn’t work, let’s try that’ phase. Both of us are comfortable with our progress as these modifications are part of the long term goals that we had set for the magazine for 2010.
Whether in our personal and professional life we make a lot of decisions some small, some big and a few that are really mammoth in size. During the decision making process one can turn to sundry friends and relatives.Remember though that their opinions will be distorted by their feelings for you. Friends sometimes come from a place of self-preservation and are afraid that your desire to buy a new house, start a business or even join a book club that they are not part of means that you are shutting them out. While relatives often retreat into their own comfort zone and prefer that you remain in yours.
Some of you may choose to work with a coach, consultant, councillor or therapist; this is someone who can offer an unbiased and professional perspective. They also provide that safe place in which you can brainstorm, discuss the pros and cons and allow your fears and doubts to see the light of day. Other help options include mentors and support or networking groups.
As for the new home page; When we are satisfied with the revamped look, a test page will be sent out to some neutral colleagues who I trust to be constructive in their observations. By the time it goes live I know that the end result was reached through experience, careful planning and good timing.
Whatever may be looming on your horizon;
- seek an impartial outlook
- decide on what to do
- own the decision
- set it in motion.
